Recurring Billing Terms

Fictional terms of a fictional service — written as a demonstration of plain-language subscription disclosure.

1. Who is charging you

The merchant of record for every Pulse subscription is Lorem Ipsum (fictional demo). No real company stands behind this page and no real payment method is ever charged — every transaction in this demo is simulated.

2. Plans and exact amounts

Pulse offers three plans, each billed per 30-day period:

  • Basic$9.00 per 30 days
  • Pro$29.00 per 30 days
  • Scale$79.00 per 30 days

These are the only amounts we ever charge on a renewal. The single exception is a prorated upgrade charge, described in section 6, which is always shown to you before you confirm it.

3. Automatic renewal

Every paid subscription renews automatically at the end of each 30-day period, at the plan price above, until you cancel. There is no minimum term and no renewal fee beyond the plan price. You can cancel at any time in your portal — see the Cancellation & Refunds policy.

4. Free trial

Every plan offers a 14-day free trial. No card is required to start it, and because we hold no payment method during the trial, it can never convert silently into a paid subscription. When the 14 days are up the trial simply ends — nothing is charged unless you explicitly activate the subscription by entering a card. One trial per account.

5. Failed payments and retries

If a renewal charge fails, we handle it on a fixed, published schedule: the initial attempt is made on your renewal date; if it fails, we retry after 1 day, again after 3 days, and a final time after 7 days. You retain full access to the service during the retries. If the 4th attempt also fails, the subscription is canceled and the unpaid invoice is written off as uncollected — you owe nothing. You can also settle the outstanding amount yourself from the portal at any point during the retry window, which restores the subscription immediately.

6. Proration on upgrades

When you upgrade mid-period, we prorate by the day over the 30-day period: you receive a credit for the unused days of your current plan and are charged for the same days at the new plan’s rate — you pay only the difference, and your renewal date does not move.

Worked example

You are on Pro ($29.00) with 13 days left in your period and upgrade to Scale ($79.00):

  • Credit for 13 unused Pro days: $12.57
  • Charge for 13 Scale days: $34.23
  • Due today: $21.66

Downgrades are never prorated or charged: they are scheduled and take effect at your next renewal.

7. How your consent is recorded

You cannot start a paid subscription (or a trial) without ticking a consent checkbox next to a disclosure of the exact recurring amount — for example: You authorize Lorem Ipsum to charge $29.00 every 30 days until you cancel. Cancel anytime in your portal.” When you agree, we store that exact sentence together with a timestamp on your subscription. Both are viewable in your portal at any time, so there is never a dispute about what you agreed to, or when.
